Probate & Estate Administration
Losing a loved one is difficult. Weekend Law provides practical guidance to executors, administrators, and family members navigating Virginia probate and estate administration matters. Services may include qualification of a personal representative, probate administration, deed preparation, transfer of assets, and general estate administration guidance.
Because every estate is unique, estate administration services are generally offered on a flat-fee basis after an initial consultation and review of the estate’s circumstances.

Family Law & Adoption Services
Uncontested Divorce
Weekend Law focuses exclusively on uncontested divorce matters. An uncontested divorce generally occurs when the parties have entered into a written separation or property settlement agreement resolving the major issues arising from the marriage, including the division of assets and debts, child custody and visitation, child support, and spousal support. Once those issues have been resolved by agreement, the divorce process is often more efficient and less costly than contested litigation.
It is important to understand that the mere fact both parties want a divorce does not make the matter uncontested. If the parties have not reached an agreement regarding the key issues involved in the divorce, those issues remain contested and must ultimately be decided by a judge. Weekend Law does not represent clients in contested divorce litigation but is available to assist parties who have reached, or are prepared to reach, a complete written settlement agreement.

Stepparent and Adult Adoption
Weekend Law assists clients with stepparent adoptions and adult adoptions. A stepparent adoption allows a stepparent to become the legal parent of a child. Because a child cannot have more than two legal parents, the adoption requires the termination of the parental rights and obligations of the parent whose rights are being relinquished or terminated. While a stepparent adoption generally terminates future parental rights and responsibilities, including future child support obligations, it does not eliminate unpaid child support obligations that accrued before the adoption. Weekend Law handles stepparent adoptions when the consent of the parent whose rights are being terminated can be obtained. We also assist in cases where the identity of a parent is unknown or where a parent’s whereabouts are unknown and service may be accomplished through alternative means when appropriate.
In some cases, Virginia law may permit a stepparent adoption without a parent’s consent, including circumstances where a parent has failed to maintain contact with the child for an extended period of time. Weekend Law can assist with the preparation and filing of adoption paperwork in such matters; however, we do not represent clients in contested adoption litigation. We also assist with adult adoptions, which may be used to formalize an existing parent-child relationship or accomplish other personal and family planning goals.

To ensure we can provide efficient and affordable service, Weekend Law focuses exclusively on a limited number of family-based immigration matters, including naturalization and citizenship applications, marriage-based green card applications, and fiancé visa petitions. We do not handle removal proceedings, immigration court matters, asylum applications, employment-based immigration, waivers, appeals, or other complex immigration litigation.

Business Formation
